How Often Should You Feed Your Reptile?
Share
This is easily one of the questions we get asked the most and honestly, there’s no single perfect answer. It really depends on your reptile.
Start With Age
In most cases, younger reptiles need to eat more often. They’re growing, using more energy, and tend to have stronger feeding responses. Feeding them daily is usually normal.
As they get older, their metabolism slows down. Adult reptiles don’t need food as frequently, and this is where overfeeding happens quite a bit. For many adults, feeding every two to three days works well.
Watch Your Reptile
We always tell customers this. Your reptile will tell you if something’s off.
If they’re active and responding well during feeding, especially with live feeders, you’re on the right track. If food keeps getting ignored, you might be feeding too often or offering too much.
On the other hand, if they’re always eager and finish everything quickly, you may need to adjust portions or variety.
It’s Not Just About Frequency
Sometimes the issue isn’t how often you feed, but how much.
Keeping feeder size appropriate makes a big difference, especially when choosing the right size mealworms or superworms. Smaller, manageable portions are usually safer and more consistent than giving too much at once.
Variety Helps
Feeding the same insect all the time can make reptiles lose interest over time.
Rotating between different feeders like mealworms, superworms, or crickets keeps things more natural and often improves feeding response. It also helps balance out nutrition without making things complicated.
From What We’ve Seen
Most feeding issues aren’t big problems. They usually come down to small adjustments.
Start simple. Feed younger reptiles daily, adults every two to three days, then adjust based on what you observe.
Once you find the right rhythm, everything becomes easier.
And having fresh, active feeders on hand makes that routine much more consistent. If you need to restock, you can always browse our live feeders to keep things running smoothly.
At Werms.Inc, that’s what we focus on. Keeping feeders consistent, so feeding your reptiles stays simple and predictable.
