Insect Based
Vermicomposting Baseline Workshop
Students will learn more about the realities of the global and local food waste situation from our suppler chains to when it reaches the end consumer. From there, they will be able to set up and bring home their very own verimocomposting kit, kickstarting their own sustainability journey. Getting to feel the worms crawling on their hands makes this a unique extra-curricular activity not to be missed.
Vermicomposting Enhanced Workshop
As a continuation from the baseline workshop, this workshop provides a more advanced understanding on the efficacy of vermicomposting through maintenance review, soil meter testing and experiments with soil components like Humus
Upcycling x Life-Cycle Workshop
An integral companion to a student’s learning of the lifecycle, students will witness and learn about the wonders of a mealworm and witness its pupation and metamorphosis into an adult beetle. Tying it in with food sustainability, students will learn how these wonder creatures help to reduce waste as nature’s environmental warriors.
Edible Insect Workshop
Students will explore how tiny plants can make a big impact on sustainability and the future of food. Guided step by step, they’ll harvest a variety of fresh nutrient-rich micro-greens while learning about their incredible flavors and benefits. But the journey doesn’t stop there! Students will also attempt to repot the remaining roots and soil, giving new life to what’s left behind. This activity introduces them to the concept of food cycles, regeneration, and reducing waste, showing how plants can continue giving if we care for them thoughtfully.

Upcycled Terrarium Workshop
Delve into the world of terrariums and the wonders of its self-running ecosystem! In this workshop, students learn how to create their own upcycled terrariums from scratch, understanding the functions of each layer and how these layers come together to create a beautiful eco-system in a cup, each with their very own living isopods.
Mushroom Cultivation Workshop
Students explore the fascinating world of fungi by cultivating their own mushrooms with their own individual mushroom grow kit. They learn how mushrooms grow, their role as decomposers in ecosystems, and their importance in food and sustainability.
Seed Bombing Workshop
In this workshop, students will learn how urbanisation can threaten natural biodiversity and how different practices have been employed to increase vegetation in urban areas. Instructors will guide students on the craft of seed bombing while making use of upcycled materials.
Sustainability
Water Filtration Workshop
In this hands-on workshop, students explore how clean water is essential for life and discover the simple science behind filtration. By building and testing their own filters, they investigate mixtures, separation, and sustainability through trial and error. Linking real-world issues to classroom sciences, the students will gain awareness of water conservation and the innovations of engineering.
Oil Spill Cleanup Workshop
In this hands-on workshop, students explore the manmade phenomenon of oil spills and it’s effects on the environment and various biodiversities and eco-systems. With the instructors guidance and through material testing and data recording, students will test the absorptivity and effective of each cleanup tool and attempt to make inferences from their datasets.
Paper Waste Upcycling Workshop
Through the art of weaving, students transform old newspapers into useful baskets. While learning handson skills, they discover how upcycling reduces waste, conserves resources, and gives new life to everyday materials. The activity fosters creativity, environmental awareness, and a sense of responsibility for sustainability.
Zero Waste Learning Journey Workshop
Explore a hidden “farm-to-table, table-to-farm” landscape at GardenAsia, where farm and food meet. Students will get to come up close with various insects and learn about their biology & anatomy and see how they upcycle food waste. They will explore the Shamrock Garden, where its’ fruit trees galore - and learn how insect frass is used as fertiliser for these trees. Circling back to the bistro, they’ll feed the fishes in the large pond with our insects to see how farm and food all connects.
